Spilimbergo

Spilimbergo is perhaps best known for its mosaic school, whose works of art are displayed in venues—such as cathedrals, royal palaces, and even airports—all over the world. Just like in the provincial capital Pordenone, its cobblestone streets are lined with colorfully painted palazzi, many adorned with Venetian Gothic windows. One of the best known is the Palazzo Dipinto; located in the castello, these 16th-century frescoes were the only ones to be saved after the 1511 castle fire. Also notable are the Duomo di Santa Maria Maggiore's Romanesque Gothic façade, the Palazzo di Sopra (currently home to Spilimbergo’s town hall), and the Palazzo Ercole, whose frescoes illustrate scenes from the mythical life of Hercules.
